Tonya Chiu steps into new role as Yucca Valley Chamber President, CEO | Desert Trail

After more than a decade of dedicated volunteer service to the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce, Tonya Chiu has officially stepped into the role of President and CEO, bringing with her a passion for community, a heart for small business, and a vision rooted in education and collaboration.

Chiu’s journey with the Chamber began shortly after she moved to Yucca Valley 13 years ago. Encouraged by former Chamber President and CEO, Wanda Stadum, during a Copper Mountain College workshop, she began volunteering, steadily growing into leadership roles. She served as a board director, secretary, treasurer, chairman-elect, and then as chair for two consecutive years. Now, as President and CEO, Chiu sees her new position as both a responsibility and a joy.

“I really devoted my time to serving the community because we have such a great one up here. The most exciting part of this role is seeing our small businesses thrive and helping them grow. That’s what it’s all about,” said Chiu.

Chiu envisions the Chamber as not only a networking hub but also a place of learning, where aspiring small business owners can come to find guidance, workshops, and mentorship.

“There are so many people who want to start their own business but don’t know where to begin. The Chamber should be a tool for that. I want to partner with our town, local representatives, and Copper Mountain College to provide more educational resources and hands-on support,” shared Chiu.

Outside of her Chamber responsibilities, Chiu continues to be deeply involved in local initiatives and stay active with Desert ARC. Through her work with SoCal Sports, she also supports fitness and wellness initiatives for individuals with disabilities.

“Serving others is just who I am. I don’t see it as work. When you love what you do, it’s a joy to be out in the community, listening to what people need and finding ways to help,” stated Chiu.

Chiu has already seen firsthand how Yucca Valley is growing, from the rising number of new businesses to the influx of visitors discovering the region’s charm through Joshua Tree National Park. She emphasizes the Chamber’s role in bridging these groups and amplifying the voices of long-standing and emerging business owners alike.

“We’ve had businesses here for 60 years, and they’re still thriving. At the same time, we have new entrepreneurs wanting to be part of the fabric of this town. The Chamber can be the link between generations of growth,” said Chiu.

Chiu’s goals for the coming year include expanding Chamber membership, continuing staple events like Grubstake Days and the Art Festival, and building on new ones like the Health & Wellness Fair. With our strong board of directors and community support, she’s confident the Chamber will remain a cornerstone of local progress.

“I’ve got some big shoes to fill. Wanda was amazing, and with the incredible team we have, I know we can keep moving forward. My door is always open to anyone who wants to get involved, learn, or just introduce themselves. This is a place for everyone,” shared Chiu.
