The BusinessNSW State Business Awards were held on 29 October 2025, celebrating ingenuity, resilience and leadership across New South Wales. The annual event recognises the achievements of businesses of all sizes—from emerging startups to established corporations—across categories including Excellence in Innovation, Outstanding Community Organisation, and Employer of Choice.

Morrison was recognised for his leadership, resilience, and ability to bring “bold ideas to life,” transforming GTT from a concept into a growing regional manufacturing business that’s defining a smarter way to build.

“Still not sure how I pulled that one off,” Morrison said after receiving the award. “To be honest, this wasn’t me—it’s the team and my family. Those who know me might say I never really switch off from thinking about what we can do differently, how we can improve, or what product we can create next. But this award is a small recognition that I’m doing an OK job—or at least putting in the hard yards to grow and develop and turn up proud of what we do every day.”

Recognising leadership and innovation

The Outstanding Young Business Leader Award celebrates individuals aged 35 or under who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and community commitment. Morrison joined a strong field of finalists including Aaron Mulhall (Specialised Energy Solutions, Illawarra), Naomi Bennett (Evolve Psychology Services, Central Coast), and Tiga Cross (Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary, Mid North Coast).

“The support from my wife, Luisa, amongst raising a young family is next level,” Morrison added. “This award really goes to her and how she handles so much while I’m often away or my mind is a blur from the days. As for the GTT team—you all know who you are, turning up every day with the same desire to innovate and push new boundaries. Without you, none of what we’re doing would be possible.”

Other major award categories presented on the evening included Outstanding Business Leader (21 Employees and Over), Excellence in Sustainability, Excellence in Small Business, and Business of the Year, reflecting the diversity of innovation and achievement driving New South Wales’ business community.

Building smarter with Green Timber Technology

Based in Orange, New South Wales, Green Timber Technology (GTT) is advancing sustainable offsite construction through its kit-of-parts building methodology—a precision-engineered system using lightweight, timber-framed panels prefabricated in-factory for consistent quality and rapid installation.

“Our goal is to simplify the process for builders without compromising on quality,” Morrison explained. “We’re focusing on a sector where we can have the most impact—creating residential building systems that are efficient, adaptable and genuinely sustainable.”

Founded in 2021, GTT was established to address inefficiencies in traditional construction while integrating sustainable, locally sourced timber. The company’s investment in Homag Weinmann advanced timber processing equipment supports its digital manufacturing operations. Morrison said GTT’s workflow is enhanced by design platforms commonly used across the offsite construction sector, including hsbcad, enabling greater precision and coordination between design and production.

“Automation is critical for achieving consistent quality across projects,” Morrison said. “Homag’s technology and integrated design tools allow us to align precision with fabrication accuracy, ensuring every panel and component meets our standards. It also reduces waste and supports our carbon-reduction goals.”

A measured approach to growth

With partnerships including Brightlands Living and Pentarch Group, GTT is building a stable foundation for national expansion. Its combination of local supply chains, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable materials positions it as a model for regional innovation.

“This is still just the start,” Morrison said. “We’ve got some incredibly exciting projects on the horizon with a strong order book building. Thanks to BusinessNSW and the Premier’s Department for a great night—and for recognising how regional manufacturing and offsite construction can play a big part in Australia’s housing future.”
